LINT LONG DESCRIPTION

Lint Trio brings a fun creative lift to the Great American Songbook, pop songs, and some deep cuts from the jazz repertoire. Like lint, Casey Nielsen’s trio is funky, electric, while small and  featherlight. 

“Light intensity.” The Lint trio was born out of  a weekly gig at a fancy-shmancy steakhouse. Facing the challenge of playing quietly enough for patrons without sacrificing creatively, the Lint Trio cultivated an aesthetic one bassist dubbed “light intensity.” This is hidden in the shortened “Lint.” Lint is funky, sticks with you, is lightweight and airy. Too much? Suffice to say Lint Trio brings a fun creative lift to the Great American Songbook, pop songs, and some deep cuts from the jazz repertoire. Light enough for a steakhouse, intense enough for the serious musician.

Lint Trio brings a fun creative lift to the Great American Songbook, pop songs, and some deep cuts from the jazz repertoire. Make no mistake; with the creative force of bassist John Sutton and drummer Kyle Swan, Lint Trio can bring the intensity as needed. Lint Trio began with guitarist Casey Nielsen’s steakhouse gig. Forced to play quietly without sacrificing creativity, the trio cultivated an aesthetic one bassist dubbed “light intensity”- shortened to “Lint.”

BIOS

Casey Nielsen

Casey regularly performs as soloist, bandleader and sideman in various groups throughout the US. As a classical guitarist, he has given solo concerts throughout the Chicago area including North Shore Baptist Church, Elgin Public Library, Northbrook Public Library, Fabyan Park Japanese Garden series, and Musical Offering’s Music on Madison concert series. As a jazz guitarist, Casey performs in local jazz venues such as Andy’s, Fulton Street Arts Collective, Green Mill, Jazz Showcase, Merriman’s Playhouse, and The Whistler. Since forming in 2014, his group, Lapis Trio,  has played many venues including University of Southern Mississippi, Louisiana State University, SideBar NOLA, Arts Lit Lab, The Jazz Estate, Chicago Botanic Gardens, Elastic, The Glen Ellyn Jazz Festival, and Merman’s Playhouse.

John Sutton

John Sutton is a bassist/composer and educator based in Chicago. As a natural storyteller, both his playing and writing reflect his belief in the power of simplicity and humor. In recent years, John has composed for over 15 feature length and short films as well as theme music for multiple web series and other media projects. He releases original music under his own name and as The Vine Street Alternative, a saxophone trio based in NYC. John has been featured on recent releases by Vine Street Alternative, Saxsquatch, Ryley Walker, Mikel Patrick Avery, Tammy McCann, and Rana Santacruz. He has performed in many world famous venues including The Getty Museum, Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, NYC Winter Jazz Fest, Millennium Park Pritzker Pavilion, as well as NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series. He is the creator of the web series Bass Solo: a sketch comedy show exploring what it means to be a musician in today’s world.

Kyle Swan

@Grammy Award winning drummer Kyle Swan has been working on mastering his craft for over 15 years. He has demonstrated true dedication to enhancing his artistry in every way. He has participated in many music festivals across the world which include the Montreal Jazz Festival(Canada, 2016), Jazz Cruise(2017), Port Au Prince Jazz Festival(Haiti, 2018), Dromos Jazz Festival(Italy 2018) Guatemala Jazz Festival(Guatemala 2019), Menorca Jazz Festival(Spain 2019), and many others. He has had the honor of playing with many esteemed artists such as, @Grammy Award winning artists Brian Lynch, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, and Paquito D’Rivera. He has also had the privilege of playing with other phenomenal artists such as Bobby Broom, Orrin Evans, Alex Brown, Sean Jones, Eric Reed, etc. He attained his Undergraduate and Graduate degrees from University of Miami’s Frost School of Music from the years 2013-2018. He studied Criminology and Jazz Studies in his undergraduate degree and became the Teaching Assistant for the Jazz Drum Department during his graduate studies. As a student of the Black American Artform that is Jazz, Kyle has devoted quality time to his musical evolution, instruction, and mastery.
